As the skin matures, effects of frowning, squinting and the movement of our facial muscles cause lines, wrinkles and folds to form. With age, our skin become less elastic which causes these lines to become permanently etched on our face whether contracting these muscles or not.
Anti-wrinkle injections are performed by placing a small amount of a natural, purified protein into the muscle. This product prevents the nerve from telling the corresponding muscle to contract. When injected into specific facial muscles, wrinkle-causing muscles are relaxed, giving a younger, fresher appearance, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles.
Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for a long time with no reports of long term side effects. Immediately after the treatment some slight swelling or redness may be present for no longer than an hour or so and there is a small risk that a bruise may appear at the injection site.
Generally it takes 3 – 14 days for the product to take full effect. Usually anti-wrinkle injections last 3 – 4 months, but can vary depending on the size of the muscle and how quickly your body breaks down the proteins in the product.
Anti-wrinkle injections have the most pleasing results for dynamic lines (lines that appear when contracting muscles), for example the frown, forehead and crows feet. Over time and with multiple treatments, static lines (lines that are present at rest) will begin to fade, and may even resolve completely.
